We call them Ambassadors because we ask them to go out and spread the word that there is finally a group of people who truly understands what they have been through—and what they are still facing. The Honor Flight Tri-State Flight Management Team will be in contact with you when we have a senior veteran in your same branch of service to pair you with. Please be patient - we will get to you. You will receive an email from us when you are selected so watch your email and spam/junk files. We will also send you a text to inform you that we have sent that email.
As the Empowerment Team grows it is our hope that you and your family come to all the Welcome Home Celebrations at CVG airport after every flight. There you can get together with other VGAs and join the team. You will be part of a TEAM again!
They are Guardians
We call them Guardians because they walk beside older veterans on their Honor Flight to Washington, DC. Both the younger and older veteran served in the same branch, often two generations apart in age.
They spend a full day together visiting the memorials built in their honor, sharing stories, memories and sometimes tears. Along the way, a special bond forms.
The younger Guardian sees that the senior veteran has already faced similar battles and painful memories, yet has gone on to live a long, meaningful life. From that connection comes a quiet, powerful thought: ‘If they made it through, I can too.’
They are Veterans First
VGA’s have served in any war or conflict where American service members were killed or injured in combat. This would include Desert Shield, Dessert Storm, Kosovo, Bosnia, Korea DMZ, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran.
